  1. Light Years Better Than Ladder/Scoop Method 5 Star Review

Posted by on 6th Aug 2015

I bought the GCB for my dad's house. This was an urgent situation as the clogged gutters, which hadn't been cleaned in 10+ years, were causing major flooding problems in the basement. Cleaning the gutters by the ladder method would have been very, very difficult, sloppy, and dangerous... no way I could do it. Additionally, the gutters were filled with large pine cones and growing weeds and vines in some places and worse, there are tons of active bee hives under the eaves in close proximity to the gutters.

Well, it took 2-3 days time due to the amount of gutters and their condition, but I was pretty blown away as to how well the cleaning worked... light years better than the traditional method. In the places where weeds and vines were growing, it took significant time to break the large clumps loose (using the crevice attachment helped here), but for everything else, including pine cones, it was pretty easy. Occasionally a large pine cone would get stuck... the trick that usually worked here is to remove the hose and let the material drop back into the gutter or, if that doesn't work, put the hose on the blower output to dislodge the pine cone. If using several extensions, this is easier than dropping the unit down to the ground.

Some additional tips: 1) I found that my vacuum's crevice attachment fits right into the downspout... after using the suction to remove any material, I would then run the blower and check the flow at the downspout at the ground level to confirm there are no clogs; 2) Once those bees up in the eaves are no longer active, I'll use the GCB to remove the hives; 3) I also plan to use the GCB to vacuum the cathedral ceiling in my house; 4) Do not attempt to use adapters onto a shop vac with a hose size less than 2.5" (I initially was going to do this)... I'd expect very frequent clogging.

Overall, I'm very happy but amazed that something like this product has not been available for years or decades.

  2. Average for now 3 Star Review

Posted by on 24th Mar 2015

I just got round to trying this. Went out and purchased a ShopVac from my Lowes for this purpose. The vac is 6.5HP/16Gal unit. Well it tried to get the crappy wet and 1 year old pine straw from my gutters. It was a pain. I got maybe 5 gals after 3 hours. I attributed this to the fact that it was crappy wet 1 year old pine straw. Now I must revert to my old reliable method of hiring someone to get on my 3 story roof and blow them out. Then I can start fresh, vacuuming them out quarterly. The chance to second rate this product in a couple months just might result in a more favorable rating. The extensions are manageable fully extended but was kind of tricky to manage at first. Good suction with all 4 pieces. Might have to resort to purchasing the optional mirror so as to see what is going on at 20 feet. I even tried blowing out the gutters using the product with my vac, but the straw was just to wet.

  3. 20 foot gutters under Larch/Tamarack 5 Star Review

Posted by on 26th Jan 2015

If anybody knows Tamarack and Pine needles then they know they're a pain in the A**. I've tried just about everything short of a chain saw. After just about taking a 20 foot plunge trying to get off my roof, I decided to order the 3 piece unit. What took me as much as half a day takes an hour. If you have a good shop vac then you're good to go and its a heck of alot safer!

  4. Great Tool that needs improvement for some gutters 4 Star Review

Posted by on 14th Jan 2015

Too is great on dry leaves. Large amounts of wet leaves clog the tool. Vacuum must be turned off and tool must be hit on the side of the house to unclog end of tool. This is awkward and tiring, especially with the extension. Tool could be improved if modified to shut off vacuum at operator end with an insertable disc. I made tool work by shutting off the vacuum cleaner and then banging the upper end of the tool against the gutter. business end of tool could also be modified, except I cannot think how; larger indentations at tool end.

  5. need old style shopvac. ok, but very heavy, 4 Star Review

Posted by on 7th Jan 2015

I purchased the full 3 piece kit to reach my tall second story gutters. It does reach easily, if you need more height, you can use the extensions that come with the vac . I found the flexible hose stayed attached to the tool better than an extension though. While the product is very well made, probably an indestructible extrusion, it is pretty heavy with all three pieces together. Definitely a workout to do the whole house. Make sure to wear your safety glasses! The curved part itself won't fit into my gutter directly, but you can add any of the attachments from the vac. I used the crevice tool. Only had a couple of clogs, but my gutters were pretty full of heavy palm tree seeds and they were because the crevice tool opening was restricted, not the gutter clutter buster device itself. I doubt you could plug the full size diameter tool with any type of reasonable restraint in feeding it large amounts of wet leaves or pine needles.
While It didn't fit my new, smaller hose, shop vac. I borrowed an old one with the large size hose without a problem.
My only suggestion for improvement is to make a smaller diameter device that fits the newer style vacuums. This would probably cut down tremendously on the weight, but may promote clogging.

  6. Worked on wet 2nd story gutters 5 Star Review

Posted by on 22nd Dec 2014

This is an amazing product. I was a bit skeptical, but buying it was way cheaper than even having my gutters cleaned one time, so I took the plunge. I am really happy with my purchase, and it actually works better than I expected.

I live in the Portland area, and my gutters are full of leaves and water, so this was a tough test, but the gutter buster worked very well. I did my lower gutters first, just to make sure it was working properly, then I did my second story ones. It is so nice working from the ground and not having to climb a ladder.

    Some tips/observations:
-READ THE INCLUDED NOTICE ABOUT APPLYING WD-40 WHEN STICKING THE SECTIONS TOGETHER!
-I have a 6.5 hp shop vac, and was able to suck water down from a clogged 2nd story gutter. I kept partway filling my shop vac and emptying the water!
-You can tell pretty well when the gutter is clean by tapping it up and down and listening to the sound/feeling it. I was imagining getting a camera/mirror up there, but I no longer feel that's necessary.
-The up/down motion is key when working with lots of leaves. Sometimes you can tap against the gutter to get big leaves to suck in, but sometimes you'll just have to lower it down and pull them off. I probably lowered it 15 times and pulled off leaves doing my second story. Not a big deal.

It is much easier to operate on 2nd story gutter sections where you are able to stand below the gutter. If a lower roof sticks out, making it so you are working at an angle, here are some tips:
**If you can safely get higher to reach over the lower roof, that will make it much easier.
**You will probably want to use an attachment on the end, because it will be a little more difficult to fit the end of the vacuum extension into the gutter (it is easier when closer to the house).
**It takes much more upper body strength when using it far out from the gutter. Try to set it up so that it rests on the lower gutter, supporting some of the weight, and then position it diagonally behind you and slowly work it forward.

  7. Great Product 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th Dec 2014

Product arrived quickly. It was heavier duty than store bought pvc pipe and fit tightly at connections. Hooks to your wet/dry shop vacuum perfectly and cleaning a second story gutter worked well. I tried hoooking it to a leaf blower to see if would blow dry leaves out of the gutter and it works just as well as vacuuming.
Great product, wish I had found it sooner

  8. Great Product, Just So Simple 5 Star Review

Posted by on 15th Dec 2014

This is a simple product that just works. It's a great idea, made very well and is an alternative to having to either put yourself in a compromising position, hire someone or spend a lot of money on other products. You will get a workout from holding the extensions and don't forget to wear your safety glasses. Whether blowing or vacuuming, this product just attaches to your wet/dry vac, it's that simple. Using some attachments that come with your shop vac will assist in the gutter, as sometimes it is a tight fit. Extremely happy with this purchase. I was looking to have to spent $200 for alternative ideas which probably would have worn out at some point.

  9. very good 4 Star Review

Posted by on 11th Dec 2014

overall it is very good. I ended up using only the extensions (with other vac accessories to clean). The tool's 2.5" diameter is too big for my gutter

  10. No more ladders for me! 5 Star Review

Posted by on 5th Dec 2014

I am very pleased with my purchase of the gutter buster and the fact that i will never need a ladder again to clean my gutters not to mention i can clean several times a year now at ease. Wish i would have known about this product sooner!!

One thing i questioned is if the suction would work well with all the extensions when going up 20-25 feet but i was happy to find it works quite well and pulls debris and leaves out easily.
